Udderly possible

Grass Island/Independent Grazing Cow

Coming from a semi-farming community back home, I thought I left the cows and bad smells back home. Instead, these cows are found all around Hong Kong since some of the most recent generations of locals with farming backgrounds decide to work or live in the major cities and suburbs. This leaves parents with the only alternative they can see and so the cows are set to roam freely. Its not just the Islands as seen in the picture but hikers, like me, can head to different areas to find these cows.

So, you may ask where the milk comes from in Hong Kong? Mostly, stores will show that Hong Kong depends on China for its needs and some other foreign countries. But, there are a few farms for milking cows like shown in the photo above of their cafe. This farm is near my home in Tsuen Wan. If your out for a walk, hike or bus ride to Ma On Shan Country Park, then you may want to stop by this establishment for some refreshment. Also, they have some goats in a yard that you will see people feeding.

If you get off at Route Twisk/Ma On Shan Country Park, you can hike to this cafe by taking the Kap Lung Forest Trail or Kap Lung Ancient Trail. Both trails provide beautiful scenery. The ancient trail has a bigger area to cool off at a stream before finishing the trail. Once you have departed the bus, you head left up to the trail entrance and continue along the trail which follows closest to the road. There are a couple of other trails you do not want to follow which will eventually take you to the Maclehose though its an interesting trail. Anyways, its best to head
